Apostles for Life News May 2000

Newsletter's content:

• Continued attack on the Holy See

• Melinda Tankard-Reist “Giving Sorrow Words”

• Pregnancy Care

• Resources

Greetings and welcome to this first attempt at a rudimentary newsletter. We have been meeting now to pray and share the Gospel of Life for nine months and though our numbers do fluctuate, we have been able to meet each month consistently over that time. God knows the fruit of our prayers and even though we may not, we keep acting in faith that He will bring the increase in His time.

Continued attack on the Holy See 0rganisations such as Catholics (sic) for a Free Choice and Planned Parenthood are trying to have the Holy See expelled from the UN. In the past year they have gathered the support of 350 organisations. In response to this blatant attempt to silence pro-life voices at the UN the Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute (C-FAM) has launched a campaign to defend the Vatican delegation. Over 1000 groups have signed the C-FAM declaration in support of the Holy See. Defenders of the Vatican come from 46 countries, and include Evangelicals, Mormons, Jews, Muslims and atheists. Any group, of any size, that exists for any purpose, can sign the declaration. Apostles for Life is now one of those groups. If you belong to another group that is willing to sign visit C-FAM’s website at www.c-fam.org

Luncheon Invitation Melinda Tankard Reist who has recently had published “Giving Sorrow Words - Women’s Stories of Grief after Abortion” will be guest at a luncheon to be held at 20000 Cows Vegetarian Restaurant, 58 Bridge Street, North Lismore from 11am to noon on Tuesday 20th June, and you are warmly welcomed to attend. It would be good if you could arrive around 10.30am. RSVP by Friday 16th June for catering reasons. You may phone me on xxxx or the restaurant on 66222517.

Pregnancy Care How do you feel about the possibility of setting up a service for pregnant women here in Lismore? Such a service already exists in Macksville and the women involved there would be prepared to talk to us about how they did it and what is involved. Please let me know if you would be interested in becoming informed-involved.

Resources We have collected a large number of pro-life books, pamphlets, videos and audio-cassettes, on pro-life topics, from contraception, through abortion, sex-education, population-control, to euthanasia. We are very happy to lend out to anyone interested.

Till we meet again, keep praying for our little apostolate

Angela Martello
