• Victims of Abortion
• Fulfilling Our Aims
Sr. Dorothy Rothar of the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants spoke to
about 100 people in Brisbane on Saturday night 23rd September. Many in the
audience were young. She had spent the three previous days counseling in front
of three different abortion clinics, then spent time in training and inspiring
pray-ers and counselors. Her message was one of great hope. To illustrate I will
try to retell a couple of her stories, which show the power of prayer and
sacrifice.
• Sister approached a black woman out front of clinic in New York. The
woman’s response was a look of hate as she snarled at her, “Get out of my face!”
Sister did, and the woman entered the “clinic”. A little while later, along came
a white woman, tears running down her cheeks. Sister spent sometime in listening
to her story - her baby was already dead; she had come to the clinic to be
delivered of the dead baby. Sister spent some time in consoling her, but
wondered why she had chosen to come to an abortion clinic and not a hospital.
Before they parted company Sister had a request of her: would she please offer
up her suffering for the woman who had previously entered the “clinic”? The
woman smiled bravely. Yes, she would do that. Immediately upon her “Yes” out
came the first woman; she had for some reason had a change of heart. She did
however return to the clinic to offer comfort and support to her newfound
friend. Her little one lives, and is cherished by his mother and his “auntie”.
• The Helpers had been praying outside the abortion clinic in this story for
over six years and, needless to say, had had quite a bit of trouble from the
abortionist who ran the clinic. One day Sister was rather troubled to see that
he was approaching her, something he had never done before. In fear, she prayed
for courage to face what might be going to happen. The words she heard left her
speechless, at least for a while. “I will never do another abortion as long as I
live.”
The Helpers were formed 10 years ago and in that time they have been
instrumental in closing down, through prayer, fasting and sacrifice, no fewer
than 34 abortion clinics in New York alone. Now they are doing the same work in
Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and please God, one day in Tweed Heads,
where Lismore women go for abortions. Please keep the Helpers in your prayers.
Pregnancy Support Angela has just returned from Canberra where she
attended the Australian Federation for Pregnancy Support Services annual
conference (AFPPSI). 96 delegates from 24 Pregnancy Support Services in 6 States
were in attendance. It was wonderful to meet so many actively involved women,
and to be encouraged and inspired to keep up the efforts to get Pregnancy
Support off the ground here in Lismore. AFPPSI is very concerned to ensure that
rural women have access to pregnancy support. The many useful talks and
workshops included: Signs and Symptoms of Post-abortion Syndrome, The Addiction
Cycle, Abstinence/Chastity Programs, The 1300 Helpline, Counselling Skills, and
Caring for the Carer, just to name a few.
There is a lot of groundwork to be done in the form of publicity, prayer,
fundraising, prayer, recruitment, prayer, training, and prayer, before we able
to be up and runnlng, so if you can possibly help with any of the above, we are
waiting to hear from YOU! We need your support and encouragement, no matter how
insignificant you may feel your contribution to be. Every little bit adds up.
Fulfiling Our Aims One of the tasks of our little pro-life group is to
involve the elderly, sick, disabled and isolated, through their prayer,
sacrifice, and suffering, in the work of saving the lives of babies, and the
souls of mothers and fathers, and all involved in life-threatening activities,
such as abortion and euthanasia. Yours is an essential part of our work. We need
you for this life-saving and soul-winning mission. Although you may be unable to
do the physical work, remember the spiritual work is just as, even more,
important. Can you be involved? Can you bring a friend into this work? If so, we
want to hear from you.
Victims of Abortion is one several organisations that have surfaced in
recent years whose primary aim is healing for women who suffer severe emotional
trauma after abortions. At last the terrible suffering, loss and grief is being
recognised. As well, there are Project Rachel, Women Hurt by Abortion and
Survivors of Abortion. All of these are run by women, each of whom has painfulIy
come to terms with her own abortion/s through acknowledging her sinfulness, and
throwing herself on the mercy of a loving and forgiving Father. Anne of Victims
of Abortion produces a newsletter called Broken Branches and is looking for
financial support to be able to carry on her ministry to grieving traumatized
women (almost 100 on a one-to-one long-term basis, plus hundreds of phone calls
over three years). Sad to say, one in three Australian women will have at least
one abortion in her lifetime, so there will be much work to be done in the
future. Above all, Anne asks for your prayers so she will be able to carry on
this very demanding work. Her address: Victims of Abortion, National Office, PO
Box 6094, Vermont South. Vic. 3133
Resources Don’t forget. If you know of anyone needing pro-life
information, maybe for a school essay, project or debate, we have a very large
range of subjects covered, e.g. feminism, the gender agenda, euthanasia,
population control, facts on the pre-born baby etc. etc. etc.
