Dear Lover of Life, This newsletter is corning to you earlier this issue, as we want you to have early as possible notice of HLI Conference coming to Brisbane the last weekend in September. It’s going to be a great three days - not to be missed! There’ll be:

• A great line-up of Oz & 0/Seas speakers (see over page)

• Live entertainment by HLI theatre company, Life Theatre,

• A life-saving Helper’s of God’s Precious Infants Prayer Vigil,

• Daily Mass, Rosary and Confessions

• Eucharistic Adoration, all day each day

• One-day youth retreat. Be there to learn how to do this most important work on earth - evangelisation with the Gospel of Life. It’s the chance of a lifetime!

Recently I had call from a friend whose daughter in another diocese was concerned that Family Planning Association was being promoted at her child’s Catholic Primary School. Did you know that a young boy phoning Kid’s Helpline, set up by Catholic Boys Town, would be referred to the Services of the FPA? FPA Annual Reports boldly name Catholic schools and agencies among those who welcome their programs and materials. Some Catholic teachers have bought into the contraceptive, anti-life worldview and pass on the errors to the children in their care.

The Menace of FPA - An expose of the Family Planning Association, a 24-page booklet written and published by Carolyn O’Loughlin, is a useful tool for counteracting the lies and corruption of innocence perpetrated by FPA on our youth. I have recently acquired half a dozen copies, and would be glad to pass one onto you. Please phone me if you would like one.

Rich blessings on you and your families,

Angela

Apostles for Life News is published bi-monthly by our Catholic Pro-life group in the Lismore Diocese, to inspire and encourage pro-life prayer, education and action. It is a means of communication between those who attend our regular meetings and those who are unable to attend, for whatever reason. There is no cost to the receiver, but donations, both literary and monetary, will be gratefully received.

Thank you, Miriam (15) for your contribution. We look forward to more!

Islam Today

As I was researching the subject of Islam, a question came to me, “Are Muslims taking over?” Today the Muslim population a over billion and is spread throughout the world - North Africa, the Middle East, Turkey, parts of the old USSR, Central Asia, Pakistan, India. Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, China, and Europe.

In Europe, it is the second largest religion after Christianity. Germany is slowly but steadily becoming Muslim, Berlin being the world’s second largest Muslim city (Istanbul the largest) and Mannheim being 45% Muslim. There are 2000 mosques and prayer centers in Germany, and a new one opening almost every day. The only European countries that are growing are Muslim Albania and Catholic Malta. Most foreigners in Europe are Muslim. In Spain here have been 100 new mosques built in a period of only ten years.

In North America, the Muslim birthrate is three times the US average family. There are six million Muslims in the US.

Indonesia has the largest Muslim population, but its population growth has halved since population control agencies, such as USAID and International Planned Parenthood Federation have pursued their anti-life agenda there.

According to The Encyclopedia of Religions, there are more Muslims than Catholics - 6 Muslims for every 5 Catholics. Muslim parents welcome children as a treasured gift from God, but many pill-using Christians reject such a special gift. Muslims achieve with babies what they couldn’t win by wars. A Muslim will rarely marry outside Islam, but 100,000 non-Muslim, German girls have married Muslim men and the majority will bring their children up for Islam.

The down side of this stable growth is the intolerant antagonism to Christianity of many Muslims. Their religion glorifies “the holy war and is a dangerous threat to Christianity. A Muslim can enjoy freedom in “Christian” countries, but Christians suffer severe persecution in most “Islamic” countries. The worst persecution of Christians is in Algeria and Sudan where 2,000,000 Christians were killed during the Sudanese War. Within six months in l998, 3,000 women and children were sold into slavery.

Why is Islam so strong? We have to admire their religions fervor, praying five times daily. They have very high moral values, strong family life and marital stability, and so they are against the moral decadence of the West. They take a strong stand against abortion, sterilization, homosexually, and other devious practices that undermine society and the family. Muslims and Christians work together to defeat UN anti-life proposals.

If only we Christians would take our religion as seriously as these Muslims, think what a difference we could make!

Hand of Hope

The tiny hand of 21-week-old Samuel Armas, diagnosed with spina bifida, emerges from the uterus of his mother, Julie, to grasp the finger of Dr Joseph Bruner, who is operating on little Samuel. Julie “wept for days” when she saw the photo. “The photo reminds us that my pregnancy isn’t about disability or an illness, it’s about a little person.” Dr. Bruner corrects spina bifida surgically at Vanderbilt University Medical Centre, Nashville, while the baby is still in the womb.

Why Patients Don’t Need to Hear Talk of Euthanasia

Offering euthanasia as an option makes a patient feel like a burden for his loved ones, so says terminally ill pro-lifer Magaly Llaguno who suffers from cancer. Magaly, a Cuban refugee in the US since 1959, has dedicated her life to promoting respect for human life. In 1972, she founded International Pro-life Committee. At present, she is director of Human Life International for Latin America.

I am in the final stages of a type of cancer called multiple myeloma, which is very painful, and not responding to chemotherapy. Judging by my feelings and that of those around me, I can tell you that depression is common in these circumstances. However, what a patient needs is not someone who will help him to commit suicide which, by the way, leads the person ‘helping’ to commit murder. Anyone offered this “quick, cheap and easy solution” is going to feel l like a heavy burden on his loved ones, and on society.

A terminally ill patient can even feel pushed, or obliged to choose suicide. What we need is a positive attitude, so that our immune systems will work properly and so that our bodies will be healed or at least improve in heath. A negative, pro-death attitude in those around us only makes things more difficult.

Magaly says terminal patients need real not apparent compassion such as that offered to us by those promoting assisted suicide and euthanasia. We need a friendly ear, a kind word every now and then but, above all we need compassionate love from those around us.
