Helpers of God’s Precious Infants - Sr. Dorothy Rothar in Brisbane

October 2000

Sr. Dorothy Rothar of the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants spoke to about 100 people in Brisbane on Saturday night 23rd September. Many in the audience were young. She had spent the three previous days counseling in front of three different abortion clinics, then spent time in training and inspiring pray-ers and counselors. Her message was one of great hope. To illustrate I will try to retell a couple of her stories, which show the power of prayer and sacrifice.

• Sister approached a black woman out front of clinic in New York. The woman’s response was a look of hate as she snarled at her, “Get out of my face!” Sister did, and the woman entered the “clinic”. A little while later, along came a white woman, tears running down her cheeks. Sister spent sometime in listening to her story - her baby was already dead; she had come to the clinic to be delivered of the dead baby. Sister spent some time in consoling her, but wondered why she had chosen to come to an abortion clinic and not a hospital. Before they parted company Sister had a request of her: would she please offer up her suffering for the woman who had previously entered the “clinic”? The woman smiled bravely. Yes, she would do that. Immediately upon her “Yes” out came the first woman; she had for some reason had a change of heart. She did however return to the clinic to offer comfort and support to her newfound friend. Her little one lives, and is cherished by his mother and his “auntie”.

• The Helpers had been praying outside the abortion clinic in this story for over six years and, needless to say, had had quite a bit of trouble from the abortionist who ran the clinic. One day Sister was rather troubled to see that he was approaching her, something he had never done before. In fear, she prayed for courage to face what might be going to happen. The words she heard left her speechless, at least for a while. “I will never do another abortion as long as I live.”

The Helpers were formed 10 years ago and in that time they have been instrumental in closing down, through prayer, fasting and sacrifice, no fewer than 34 abortion clinics in New York alone. Now they are doing the same work in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane and please God, one day in Tweed Heads, where Lismore women go for abortions. Please keep the Helpers in your prayers.
